Idaho Man Sentenced on Drug, Gun Charges

A Parma, Idaho man has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for distributing methamphetamine and possessing firearms in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime. Police investigating an attempted burglary and subsequent shoot-out at the defendant’s home discovered that he was selling methamphetamine and was in illegal possession of three firearms he had obtained for protection.

Macon Musician Using Music to Stop Violence

Macon, Georgia musician Maxwell, along with Macon Regional Crime Stoppers, is using rap music to raise awareness about drugs and gun violence and to get young people involved in the community. The rapper, who spent 6 years in prison for drug offenses before turning his life around, helped organize the summer’s “Stop the Violence” tour, which visited seven cities and featured a job, education, and health fair and a peace rally with food and live music.

Documentary Addresses Gang Activity in Virgin Islands

Six television stations in the U.S. Virgin Islands (V.I.) recently premiered “Gangs in Paradise”, a hard-hitting documentary on the state of gangs in the territory. The goal of the film is to raise awareness, establish a dialogue, and teach V.I. residents how to identify various gangs, their signs, and their activities so that gang-related violence can be met head-on.
